Ranchi: NDA ally AJSU Party has released its first list of eight candidates for the upcoming assembly elections on Sunday. Party chief Sudesh Kumar Mahto will contest from the Silli seat.
According to the seat-sharing agreement, AJSU will contest 10 seats, JDU will contest two seats, and LJP will field a candidate on one seat. The remaining 68 seats will be contested by BJP.
Mahto secured a victory in the 2019 Silli assembly election by a margin of 2,195 votes, defeating JMM’s Seema Devi. Sunita Choudhary, the sitting MLA from Ramgarh, and Nehru Shanti Bhagat from Lohardaga will also contest the elections for AJSU.
In March 2023, Choudhary won the Ramgarh by-election by defeating Congress’s Bajrang Mahto by 2,970 votes. This by-election was held after Congress MLA Mamta Devi was disqualified due to a criminal conviction.
Other candidates include Lambodar Mahto from Gomia, Ramchandra Sahis from Jugsalai, and Nirmal Mahto from Mandu. Additionally, Hare Lal Mahto will contest from Ichagarh, while Azhar Islam will represent AJSU in Pakur.
The Jharkhand Assembly elections for 81 seats will take place in two phases on November 13 and 20, with the vote counting scheduled for November 23.
